Motorola embraces Google Android but what about Windows Mobile ?
October 30, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R.

Motorola was one of the first manufactures of Windows Mobile phones but just recently they have decided to create phones powered by Google Android. What will happen to Motorola phones powered by Windows Mobile? Is Motorola abandoning Windows Mobile in this situation?

The short answer is: no.

The longer answer is: Motorola is reducing the number of operating systems that it uses in its mobile phones to 3 - from 6. Now Motorola intends to use only: Google Android, P2K (Motorola's own embedded OS for phones, something like Series40 of Nokia) and Windows Mobile!

Funnily enough the boss of devices division at Motorola (Chief Executive Officer, Mobile Devices) - Sanjay Jha - is admitting publicly that his wife is not even using Motorola phone at all, but LG Voyager. For comparison's sake: wife of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, ostentatiously carries iPhone.

Conclusion: future of Windows Mobile at Motorola is safe and thanks to Windows Mobile's strong position in enterprise market, we can expect that most manufacturers, that embrace now Google Android (HTC, Asus, Samsung, etc.) will continue releasing their Windows Mobile phones. We also think that technically it would be possible to release easily dual-boot phones, where user can select at boot time which operating system to run: Google Android ... or Windows Mobile.
